Frequently asked questions

Can I view the brochure online?

Yes, click here and contact us for a guide price.

What area do you cover?

From our base in Huntingdon we can reach a wide area, including Cambridge, Peterborough, Kettering, Northampton, Milton Keynes, Bedford, Stevenage and parts of Essex, Suffolk & Norfolk. If you are a repeat customer who has had a wardrobe before and has moved house a little further away we will often make the journey - We appreciate you coming back to us! Please don't hesitate to give us a ring & ask if you are not sure.

Are your wardrobe doors excellent quality?

Yes! All of our doors are hand-made and fitted by owner Mike, so the quality is checked and measured by us personally every time. Our doors feel weighty and solid, and the materials used have beautiful, detailed wood grains that make them look very luxurious. Because we do not have the high overheads of other national brands, we can supply these high quality doors at a much lower price than bigger brands, so we have the best style for your budget. Plus, all of our wardrobes have a 5 year guarantee, so we're sure that our wardrobes will last the test of time!

Can I see wardrobe examples before I buy?

Yes! To maintain low costs that we can pass on to you, we do not have a big fancy showroom, but you are welcome to visit our factory display area in Huntingdon by appointment (please call 01480 417415). We will be happy to show you around, explain how the wardrobes will work and be fitted, and help you decide the style that you would like.

How can I order

Firstly, thank you! Please contact us and we will send you a brochure and price list. This will give you time to consider the style, size and budget of wardrobe that you'd like. When you have a good idea of what you are looking for, just give us a ring back and we will organise your free home design visit. These are important because it allows us to take measurements of the space, and give you all the details of the installation process. When you decide to go ahead and order your new wardrobe, we will ask for a 25% deposit.

How long will my wardrobe take to arrive?

We aim to install your wardrobe within 6 weeks from the date of order. Generally, the wait is 3-4 weeks.

More urgent orders are possible in certain circumstances, so please just let us know and we'll see what we can do.

I'm having the room decorated/carpet laid. Should I do this before the wardrobe is installed?

Yes - This is not essential but it always looks better.

SMA Wardrobes sit on the carpet or wood flooring, so it is easier to have it laid before the wardrobe is in place. The flooring is then uninterrupted in the wardrobe and looks a lot neater. Also, doing it this way will usually save you money and fuss with your decorators, as it takes longer to decorate around the wardrobe after it is installed.

How will I know when my wardrobe is coming?

We will contact you to discuss a fitting date when your wardrobe has been made.

If a particular day of the week is more convenient for you, for example if you work part-time, let us know and we can fit in with your requirements.

If your decorating/carpet doesn’t get done as quickly as you anticipated, please don’t worry! We can be flexible.

What is the depth of the wardrobe?

We recommend a depth of 25" (625mm) to leave 21" for the hangers behind the doors. However, we can make wardrobes shallower where necessary. Your wardrobe will be entirely custom made to suit you, so the depth depends on your room!

How long will it take to fit my wardrobe?

We will arrive between 9.30 – 10.30am and aim to be completely finished up the same day. If the job is quite complicated it may take 2 days, but we try to keep it to one day where possible.

Will the installation leave my room messy?

Not at all. We have lots of dust sheets to protect your floors and furniture, and take extra care to ensure that none of your items are affected. When we leave your bedroom should look better than new!

What do I do to prepare?

The space where the wardrobe is to be fitted must be cleared and any old wardrobes removed (we offer a demolition service if you need!). The bed and other large items of furniture can stay in the room, but it is great if all your surfaces are cleared.

What is a demolition service?

If you have a pre-existing wardrobe in the space where you would like your new wardrobe fitted, we can remove and dispose of it, stress-free for you! This service costs around £155, so just let us know if we can add this to your order.

Who will I be dealing with?

SMA Wardrobes is run by husband & wife team Mike & Emma. Both undertake sales calls while Emma runs the office & Mike does the installations. With hundreds of installations completed, we understand all the pitfalls and how to avoid them.

We don’t use contractors and give a friendly & efficient service.

At SMA we are less interested in the time that we finish and more interested in the quality of the finish.

What if I have a problem with my finished wardrobe?

If you find a problem with your wardrobe after it is fitted you should tell us immediately. Only a very small percentage of wardrobes ever develop a problem, and it is almost always a door that rolls open a small way by itself. ALL problems have a simple solution which we will attend to without delay. All our doors have a 5 year guarantee.
